Just washing the windows and waxing the floors (both things I've never done in a literal sense but spend a great deal of time doing in a figurative one).

Mike says to Robbie, "why you leaving me hanging, brother?" So Robbie says to Justin, "Mike says you're leaving him hanging... what gives, dear friend?" Justin thinks and then says to Robbie, "I know why the guest app hangs, I'll have it sorted out lickety-split ." So Robbie says to Justin "that's great but what do I tell Mike?" To which Justin says "tell him there's a crack in everything, that's how the light gets through; also tell him I wrote that."
Which is to say, if you found yourself staring at our launch screen like Mike, this update is for you.

Sometimes, things don't work the way anyone wants them to. This update helps us identify those things and help them find their way to bug heaven.

A very nice customer told me about an issue with the store selection screen not going away. I have a soft spot for very nice people, so this is now fixed.

When a customer tells you about a bug in your app and, in the same sentence, tells you your app is slick, you fix that bug very, very quickly. I guess flattery will get you everywhere. This update fixes an issue with dietary restriction selections getting lost when adding new items to the cart.

I miss you Branden. Everything that is new in this update would undoubtedly have been better with you in the pilot seat. To our users: if you like this app enough to review it, aim some kind words in Branden's direction. Because he is likely responsible for the stuff you like.
With that, some datapoints:
- We now support multiple stores in the app. Select which one you want to order from at the top of the menu.
- We also added support for promo codes in the app.

Version 4.14
I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, woah hold up what happened to version 4.13? You're thinking, did I saunter past an invisible black hole, causing time to move more slowly for me than for Mt. Joy and resulting in my having missed an entire app update?
In New York City (and possibly other places too, but I speak from personal experience), if someone tells you to take the elevator to the 13th floor of a building, there's a reasonable chance you are the victim of a prank. Because many of the elevators in the city have no 13 button in them at all.
Why is that, you ask? Once you figure that out, you may also know why we went from 4.12 to 4.14.

Version 4.12
At the far end of the food truck we just launched sits a computer monitor that I use to display tech updates to the folks who make the food. It's sort of like the staff-version of this text box I'm typing in now. But when I type in that box, every so often, someone responds to me. Sometimes the response is "hey the printer isn't working." Sometimes I get "nice update!" And it honestly doesn't matter what the message is. For this software engineer, getting to build systems in true collaboration with the folks who use them has already been the ride of my career. And I could not have asked for a better group of people to be on that ride with. So here's to my amazing colleagues on the food truck.
Oh and if you want to know what's new in this update, just imagine that we heard all the things you wanted to be better about your last ordering experience and did 'em (or smash the update button and you need not imagine at all).

As I scoured my brain for something meaningful to say here, it occurred to me that this note has already been written. In fact, every update note I'll ever write, word for word, has already been written. And it gets weirder: every note I've ever written, including this one, has been published online for some time now. Don't believe me? I can prove it:

Woah is right. And if you're still here, 'this is another under-the-hood update' is what I'm trying to say.

Dear Future Teammate,
One of the challenges of being a company's sole engineer is remembering to build with empathy for those who will one day inherit your code. In truth, this is something most of us struggle with regardless of the size of our team, but it's much easier to overlook when you're alone.
Since Mt. Joy's first popup in October 2022, I have been able to go fast - sometimes too fast - because I've never had to explain how any of this works to anyone. But soon we will open our first location, I will add my first teammate, and this technology organization will transition from infancy to adolescence. In preparation, I am combing through this codebase to make it easy, safe, and - dare I say - fun to work with.
So while our users may not see anything new in this version, this is how we ensure they get all the new stuff in the future.
Warmest regards,
Justin
